CROP CARE
Conduct monitoring every year, paying special attention to fields with high crop residue coverage. Ideally, perform monitoring 30 days before planting.
Pill bug monitoring involves counting the number of individuals present in the field using a 50*50cm frame (on the surface and up to 5 cm deep), and then multiply by 4 to obtain the value for individuals/square meter.
There are different sampling techniques depending on the field size, permanent or sporadic presence of the plague, type of coverage, etc. Observations can be made in the field every 25 meters or more, depending on the decision of the monitoring professional based on their experience. The obtained value is compared against the economic damage threshold to determine the need for treatment.
Although pill bug populations can move, if the infestation is concentrated in a specific area within the entire field, the professional or advisor may recommend a localized treatment where the presence of the plague exceeds the established economic threshold.
