How did sustainability benefited from changing a biological product’s application technology?
Less stress on seeds: The new application technology cuts out the need for wet treatment of seeds before planting.
(This means no added moisture, no impact s from seed treatment machinery, no opening and closing of bags, no exposure of personnel to chemicals already applied to the seeds, no energy consumption, and no additional transportation with fossil fuel consumption.)
Reduction of environmental factors: By applying the biological product directly from the seeder using Gradix granules, there is no need to apply the product on the actual seeds.
This eliminates or reduces factors such as energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with spraying equipment in the field. The application process is integrated into the planting process performed by each individual farmer, without adding carbon to the environment.
Preservation of water resources: Water is a scarce resource worldwide, and the new application technology does not require water at the time of application. Trichoderma 3, the biological product, can reach its target location with no need for water.
A new generation of biofertilizers
This framework lends a new proposal that uses a biological agent as the active ingredient and a solid carrier that contains it and affords nutrients and protection, which sets it apart from any other available product today.
Gradix was developed with the concept of protecting the biological agent in mind. Through an exclusive granulation process, the microorganism’s propagules were incorporated into a solid matrix that offers protection, nutrients for rapid initial growth, and transportation to the target area.
Product granules are applied directly to the soil, near the seed, and under suitable moisture conditions (equivalent to what the seed requires), the microorganism germinates from the matrix sourcing from the nutrients contained in the granule, detaching from the soil and enabling rapid initial growth, so as to be in better condition for more efficient root colonization.
